10+ years marketing in crypto, fintech, and other complex industries

I market products that are hard to explain and expensive to get wrong.

I'm Mariane. I've managed campaign execution across two enterprise software business units and written for both retail and institutional audiences at a regulated exchange serving more than 500,000 users.

The problems worth solving

The real problem is rarely producing more content. It's deciding what the business should say, why anyone should believe it, and how to say it without bending the truth to make it land.

The product is genuinely good, but nobody can explain it without a 30-minute call.
Find the clearest reason the audience should care, then turn it into a message the team can use without needing the full explanation every time.
Different teams are telling different versions of the same story.
Sort through the competing inputs, identify what everyone agrees is true, and build one message the teams can adapt without contradicting one another.
The audience knows the category and spots a weak claim immediately.
Pressure-test the argument from the audience's perspective and replace vague promises with specific, defensible claims.
Getting a detail wrong costs more than staying quiet would have.
Identify the claims that need closer scrutiny and bring the right subject-matter experts into the review before anything goes live.
How I think and work

A few things I'll stand by

01

Clear writing is the hard version, not the dumbed-down one.

Making a complicated thing simple takes more work than making it sound impressive. Anyone can hide behind jargon. The skill is in what survives after you strip it out.

02

Love your audience more than what you're selling.

Marketing should begin with what the audience needs, cares about, and questions, not with what the business is eager to announce. If the offer isn't relevant to them, a clever campaign won't make it so.

03

The hardest part is deciding what to say, not saying it.

Before a word gets written, someone has to work out which argument this reader will believe, and which of the obvious ones falls apart on contact. Get that wrong and the cleverest execution won't save it.

04

A brief is a starting point, not the whole job.

I'd rather understand why the work matters than just tick off what was asked. That means asking questions when something's unclear, bringing a point of view, and making the call myself instead of routing every detail back for sign-off.

05

Momentum matters more than looking busy.

I do my best work on low-drama teams that are generous with trust. Point me at the problem, give me the constraints and what matters most, and I'll bring order to the rest. I know when to flag something, when to ask, and when to just get on with it.

Who I work best with

You bring the expertise. I help make it understood.

I work best with technical or regulated teams that have real expertise in-house and need someone who can carry that expertise to the audience without flattening it.

That usually means:

  • A marketing lead building a small team who needs someone to own execution, not just take direction.
  • A product or growth marketer who sets strategy and wants a dependable partner across campaigns, content, email, and messaging.
  • A team whose marketing has outgrown ad hoc effort and needs structure, consistency, and follow-through.

I don't position myself as the expert on your technology, regulation, or category. I work with the people who are. My job is to ask the questions that surface what matters, pull together the technical and stakeholder input, and turn it into marketing people can actually understand.

She's exactly the kind of person I dreamed of hiring. Her first draft needed almost no revisions. She instantly nailed the tone, the message, and the goal. That's why I appointed her as the team's copywriting trainer.

About

Hi, I'm Mariane

I'm based in Makati, where I share a desk with Taifuu, whose name means "typhoon" in Japanese because she was rescued during one. I read a lot of Brandon Sanderson, watch a lot of movies, and have a weakness for stories that make huge, complicated worlds feel easy to enter.

That is what I want good marketing to do too. Give people the context they need, leave out what they don't, and trust them to understand without making them do mental gymnastics.

Working arrangement

My hours overlap naturally with Australian teams, and I can make room for occasional calls with US teams. I'm not available for permanent graveyard shifts, and I prefer async-friendly work with fewer, more useful meetings.

Where persistent thoughts become paragraphs

Mostly marketing, occasionally stories, and sometimes whatever has been occupying too many browser tabs in my head.
